This week, the anticipated changes finally take effect as St. John Neumann and Corpus Christi officially enact our pastoral region. It has been a long process of preparation, and many, many parishioners from both parishes contributed to the planning process. On behalf of the staffs of both parishes, thank you to all who helped contribute to the success of this project!

On one level, this process has seen great success. From the first meetings we had in preparation for this day, the one overarching goal was the question: ‘What is best for the region as a whole?’ As such, there will always be tension in determining the answers that derive from these questions. Yet, we have a great plan in place and the history of working together as a pastoral area bodes very well for our ongoing success.

The hot hazy days of summer are certainly upon us! Yet we continue to plug away at things here in the parish office. It seems like most of the planning for the pastoral region have been completed and set forth, the biggest challenges still lie ahead as the plan is implemented. As has been a constant theme: there will be mistakes made! Please be patient with all of us in the parish offices as we strive to serve the needs of both parishes. It will be a challenge, to be sure; but an interesting challenge at that.

This past weekend, I had the opportunity to attend the Catholic New Media Celebration in Atlanta, Georgia. It was an opportunity to gather with quite a number of very creative individuals who are doing very amazing things in the world of digital and social media. From podcasting to blogs and Twitter and Facebook, there is a wealth of creativity that is so available to so many Catholics that it can truly lead to a new springtime of evangelization and conversion to Christ and to the Church.

One of the things that I have learned since being at St. John Neumann is that it can be hard to fully plan out your day because that next phone call can bring any number of things. Especially when the call comes in to offer an Anointing of the Sick as part of the Last Rites, nearly everything else hits a pause button and I try to get there as soon as I can, because you just never know how long that person might hang on.

Re: Why do we place a white pall on the casket of the deceased at funeral Masses?
I have been wondering about that. Thank you for explaining it.
