The last few weeks, I have provided some updates regarding my time away and what I will all be doing. But there are several other interests that I wanted to share and highlight that will be a significant part of my time, as well.

Of primary concern for me is a concern that the Apostles originally asked to Jesus: ‘Lord, teach us to pray. (Luke 11:1)’ There is a constant struggle in the heart of the believer to grow in that lived relationship with Jesus Christ; a constant struggle to get to know Him better. This struggle is simply played out in the life of prayer, the deep conversation in the heart of the believer between the self and Jesus.

As preparations continue for my time of sabbatical, there are a few more details to pass along that I meant to include last week

During my time away, there is a slight adjustment to the daily Mass schedule. It will still follow the ‘Tuesdays and Thursdays at Corpus Christi’ and the ‘Wednesdays and Fridays at St. John Neumann’ schedule; but due to the difficulty of scheduling priests during the weekday, there will only be one Mass during the weekdays at each parish; alternating with Liturgy of the Word with Holy Communion. The bulletins should have all of this detail.

Timing is never good, when planning a major thing. Ideally, when planning a sabbatical, the priest is able to clear off a majority of the schedule and take the time when there is not too much happening around the parish (or parishes!) It does not seem like this was the case, here, however!

Because of the timing of approval for a sabbatical, mine was scheduled long before I even thought becoming pastor of both Corpus Christi and St. John Neumann was even a possibility. But as Archbishop Schnurr mentioned to me: “Something will always come up, you need to take this time.”

Well, it is finally here and the pastoral region between Corpus Christi and St. John Neumann has been officially implemented. Many thanks, again, to those, from both parishes, who helped make this a reality. As I have often said, I know there is still much work to do and there will be many mistakes made along the way, but let us all keep our eyes fixed on the Lord and He will certainly guide us through these times.

I do have some very good news to share. Over the last few weeks, I have been working with Bishop Binzer to settle a few remaining questions about the Mass schedule. To my great delight, Fr. Tom Wray has been assigned to the Pastoral Region of Corpus Christi and St. John Neumann as ‘Sunday Assist’ while his official capacity will be Director of the Office of Evangelization and Catechesis for the Archdiocese of Cincinnati.

Re: Why do we place a white pall on the casket of the deceased at funeral Masses?
I have been wondering about that. Thank you for explaining it.
