What always strikes me when we celebrate or contemplate on the Body of Christ, Corpus Christi, is that Jesus loves us so much that He gives us a way to be so intimately connected with Himself that we are literally able to bring Him into our very bodies. The Eucharist that we receive is truly his Body, Blood, Soul, Divinity; not just the appearance or a memorial of the same, but the real and true Person of Jesus Christ!

As Catholic Christians, this is our most precious gift. This is our greatest treasure that has been handed down to us through the years. The Presence of Christ in the Eucharist allows us to have an encounter with the Living God, as did His disciples when He walked among us. It is a treasure that should be safe guarded. It is a treasure that should also inspire and drive us forward!

Hard to believe that it has been twelve years since my life was changed in such a profound way. May 22, 2004, seven classmates and I were ordained to the Priesthood of Jesus Christ by Archbishop Daniel Pilarczyk at the Cathedral of St. Peter in Chains. What a wild and crazy life it has been!

When I entered the seminary eight years prior to that, I had no idea what to expect of the priesthood. At the time, I knew my parish priest (Fr. Jim O’Connor) well and had gotten to know a few of the priests at the Ohio State Newmann Center; but that was about it at the time. I was very blessed in my time in seminary to get to know many other priests, and brother seminarians who are now also priests, to support that journey of discernment that happens throughout the seminary.

On Monday, May 2, nine new members of the Council in Formation for the Knights of Columbus were inducted into the Knights. With two inducted this past week and nine members (including me) transferring from other Councils to this Council in Formation, we have the requisite number to start our new Council. For those men who still wish to join and be counted as Founding Members, there is still time to join us, please see me.

The Knights are a great fraternal organization and do such great work in the Church. Many thanks and prayers for those who have already stepped up to join. It is my hope to form a Ladies Auxiliary as well; hopefully soon.

After my sister Tania had her first child, I was back home and had the opportunity to take our grandmother over to visit her newborn great-grandchild. When we arrived, Tania was upstairs sleeping, but her husband was around and both grandma and I were able to hold the baby while she slept as well. After about fifteen minutes, Taylor gave a little whimper as she stirred awake and my sister came flying down the steps shortly thereafter, ‘What’s wrong?!?!?!?’ Then she turned and saw me and our grandmother and looked perplexed, ‘When did you get here?’

As my classmates and I were preparing for Ordination to the priesthood twelve years ago, the Rector of the seminary laid out a challenge for us: when you leave each assignment, make sure it is a better place than when you got there. That adage has stuck with me over the years; even though I am not always sure I lived up to that exhortation! My first assignment teaching, I am not sure that I could have done much. When I left the Vocation Office two years ago, the program was in very good shape and it has continued to be built up by my predecessor as well.

Re: Why do we place a white pall on the casket of the deceased at funeral Masses?
I have been wondering about that. Thank you for explaining it.
