One of the many questions that come my way this time of year: ‘do you get any time off during the summer months?’ While they are a tad bit quieter and less chaotic, the summer months do seem to fly by, as there is always something going on!
The week of June 17-22, we hosted Totus Tuus as part of the parish religious education programming. We hosted four missionaries who are spending their summer going to various parishes in the Archdiocese of Cincinnati to spread the message of the Gospel to our young people. From all reports I have been given, it was a great experience for both the grade school students and the high school students. It was great to see the energy and enthusiasm of the missionaries, as well, as they shared the joy of the Gospel in such a powerful and dramatic way.
Of course, both parishes also spent a night at Stricker’s Grove in June, as well. Those evenings are such a fun time to just enjoy the ‘family’ nature of the parish and to get to know fellow parishioners in a new way, and just to relax, have fun, and hopefully dodge the raindrops!
Summer months also include youth ministry mission trips and outings to Steubenville Youth Conferences.
This summer, the parish directories are happening, and coming soon! (Have you signed up for your pictures, yet?!?!?!)
At St. John Neumann, the festival starts to loom large this time of year.
Deacon Larry is doing his ongoing adult faith formation at Corpus Christi. He, Deacon Pat and I will be teaming up to lead the Bible and the Mass over the next few weeks as well. The Mass is such a powerful and purposeful prayer, yet the routine and rhythm of it can allow us all to get a little too comfortable in our prayer and we miss the cosmic nature of what we are really doing in these moments. Certainly want to invite you all to join us in Daniel Hall at St. John Neumann to learn more about this most important prayer that we do.
Even on the business side of things, stuff is happening as we close out the year end and begin preparing the reports for the Archdiocese of Cincinnati and to publish to you, our parishioners. Add in the long hours mowing the grass by the maintenance staffs and volunteers, too; for some reason that stuff keeps growing!
All of this to say: the parish offices continue to be busy places and the wonderful staff at both parishes continue to do great work, especially during these summer months. In reality, they are the ones that make so much happen, I usually just get in their way! Please say a word of thanks to them all for the great work that they do on a daily and weekly basis. As Bishop Binzer says so often about the chancery to us priests: ‘We work for you!’ The same can be said of the parish offices to you: ‘We work for you!’
Please know of our prayers for you during the summer months and please pray for our staffs, as they continue to work hard in serving you and your needs.
God Bless, Fr. Kyle
