Projects at St. John Neumann

Over the last few weeks, you may have noticed that there have been many different projects taking place at both parishes. Luckily, working with the facilities commissions at both parishes has been a tremendous blessing, but I wanted to take this space to give a few updates as to what all is going on.

At Corpus Christi, the biggest change has happened at the west end of the parking lot with the dismantling of the old athletic building. Quite simply, the building was beyond repair and was serving very little use any more. We examined several options as to how it could have been preserved, or at least parts could have been preserved, but the termites and disrepair made it cost-prohibitive. With the building gone, there will be a more natural entry into the prairie grasses that will go in the area that has been plowed over. The two plaques that were on or near the athletic building have been preserved and kept. Plans are still being finalized with how they will be presented, but will likely be incorporated into the prairie in some way.

Also at Corpus, we have installed cameras around the campus to assist in security and protection. Thanks to Tyler Williams and his work for his Eagle Scout project, a new sign is being installed at the Struble Road entrance to the parish; which should complement the clearing out of the brush from that same entry, as well.

Over at St. John Neumann, the biggest noticeable change is the work done to the parking lot. Major cracks were ground out and recovered. After the festival, the lower lot will be resealed and striped. There was some ongoing repair work done over at the rectory as well. The interior of the parish office was given a fresh coat of paint, as it was starting to look a little dingy.

The biggest projects that have to happen at both parishes is the repair work to the baptismal fonts. We are working with a few different pool manufacturers and installers to get the best ideas of how to move forward so that we do not have to keep doing major re-works on them. As I write this, we do not have a clear plan forward, yet; but should have that plan together soon.

At Corpus, the major work on the Baptismal Font is a recasting of the upper glass bowl. That work is being completed soon and it should be re-installed within a month or two. At St. John Neumann, the whole lower pool is leaking severely into the Education Center underneath. Having a permanent seal within both fonts is a priority.

Of course, with all of these improvements, questions arise to how we are funding these projects. The proceeds from the One Faith, One Hope, One Love Capital Campaign have been a true benefit is supplying a portion of the funding. At Corpus Christi, the Fundraising Committee has worked hard to provide events and programming that have also contributed, as have individual donors to specific projects. At St. John Neumann, the proceeds from the festival are set aside for needed capital improvements, so any assistance to the festival goes directly to making the campus better.

If you have any questions on the above projects, please let me know or talk to either Bill at Corpus or Mandy at St. John Neumann.

God Bless,

Fr. Kyle Schnippel

Re: Why do we place a white pall on the casket of the deceased at funeral Masses?
I have been wondering about that. Thank you for explaining it.
