The Growth of the Catholic Faith

September has now turned and the fun events of the Summer have slowly faded into the rearview mirror, alas. School is back in session with full force and many of the adult faith formation opportunities are back in swing. Both parishes have returned to that hub of activity that helps them to continue to grow and thrive.

The regular rhythm of life around the parishes seems to be good indicators of growth. Events happen as we continue to explore the richness, depth, and beauty of our Catholic faith. Maybe that is one of the greater lessons of the quiet of the summer months returning to the beehive of the fall and winter months: we must never stop growing, in our intellectual understanding of the faith as well as our experiential understanding of the faith.

In regards to our intellectual understanding of the Faith, we hosted a ‘Biblical Walk Through the Mass’ over the summer months. With over 100 people attending each of the sessions, it gave me great hope to see such a thirst for diving deeper into this greatest prayer that we have in the Church.

Over the upcoming months, each parish is hosting various ongoing Bible studies in order that the good work done in that study might continue to bear good fruit. In addition to the Bible Studies, there are study groups looking at Early Christian Writings, Small Communities of Faith, and a group looking at images of Christ found in various sci-fi genres through the years.

The sessions that I am looking forward to the most, however, are the sessions coming in January looking at the development and content of the Creed, which we pray every week at Sunday Mass. On the four Mondays in January, Deacon Larry and I will walk through the Nicene Creed in order to help us all grow in a deeper understanding of what is contained in this great prayer, as well as how it has impacts in our daily lives. More information will be coming out closer to the date.

These are all great intellectual pieces, but it is also important to engage the faith in prayer and reflection. Every Thursday from 6-7pm, St. John Neumann hosts Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament. Corpus Christi hosts Adoration on First Fridays, as well. Deacon John and Deacon Larry host evenings of prayer and reflection on a periodic basis, and we have the prayer experiences of Advent and Lent that we walk through as well.

All of these events that we do in the parishes and events we promote beyond our borders are all for you. They are provided that you can continue to experience the richness and beauty of the Catholic faith and continue to come to an ever deeper awareness of the immense and powerful love that the Father has for you, in particular.

If you have yet to take advantage of these opportunities, I invite you to take that step forward in faith and join us in whichever speaks to you. And if there is an interest that you have which is not reflected in the programming of the parishes, I would invite you to bring that idea forward, it may speak to another and the Spirit might invite us all to run forward together in an ever new and exciting way.

God Bless,
Fr. Kyle Schnippel

Deacon Ron answers your questions.

Re: Why do we place a white pall on the casket of the deceased at funeral Masses?
I have been wondering about that. Thank you for explaining it.
