Programs that are Beneficial

Jan 20

The Church’s documents and self-understanding are fairly clear: the parish should be the spiritual home of her parishioners. To fulfill that end, both parishes operate a variety of programming to, (hopefully) meet your needs on a week by week basis. These programs range in age from our young people with early childhood programming and Children’s Liturgy of the Word up to grief support for widows through bereavement. We try to cover all the bases in between, too. The current study that Deacon Larry and I are leading on the Creed is hopefully an example of this. The upcoming Pastoral Area Mission is certainly an attempt to address the entire parish communities.

As parish staffs, though, we are also aware that there are programs that are beneficial that we just cannot provide. Either it is too specialized or too big of a program for us to put on by ourselves. To that end, I would like to invite parishioners to one of two events that are coming up shortly.

The ‘E6 Catholic Men’s Conference’ is being held on Saturday, February 23, 2019, at East Central High School Performing Arts Center in Dover, Indiana. (Right off Indiana Route 1 exit of I-74, a mere thirty minute drive from the local area.) Speakers include Mark Hart, the Bible Geek; Trent Horn, who’s book ‘Why We’re Catholic’ was given away at Christmas by Corpus Christi; and Fr. Jonathan Meyer, my personal spiritual director. The conference runs from 8:00 AM to 3:30 PM and costs $40. Registration can be found here:

Ladies, the Greater Cincinnati Catholic Women’s Conference returns on Saturday, March 9, 2019, at the Sharonville Convention Center. Speakers for this year include Donna-Marie Cooper O’Boyle, Fr. Benedict O’Cinnsealaigh, Katherine Meeks, and Sr. Bernadette of the Sisters of St. Francis of the Martyr St. George. The conference runs from 8:30 AM to a 4:30 PM Vigil Mass with Archbishop Schnurr and costs $55.00. Registration can be found here:

I have been involved with both conferences in the past and they both promise to be a good spiritual boost to prepare for and to start our Lenten journeys. In previous years, they have been scheduled on the same day, so this year there is no need for a babysitter for families with younger children!

These two conferences promise to also be good preparations for our Pastoral Area Mission that is taking place March 24-26 with Michael Gormley. More information on the Mission can be found elsewhere in this bulletin and will be forthcoming in future weeks.

With all three of these events, there is a recognition that we need to constantly stoke the fires our faith, we need to continually deepen our understanding of what it means that Jesus came for our salvation, and grow in fellowship not only within our parish communities, but with Catholics across our local region.

Please know of my continued prayers for you during these long cold months, that Jesus might constantly shine the light of His presence into your hearts.

God Bless,
Fr. Kyle Schnippel

Deacon Ron answers your questions.

Re: Why do we place a white pall on the casket of the deceased at funeral Masses?
I have been wondering about that. Thank you for explaining it.
